Tensions are rising in Esa Oke as residents demand the reversal of Prince Oluyemi Ajayi’s appointment as the Olojudo of Ido Ajegunle. In response to the unrest, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has promised to set up a panel to investigate the recent violent clashes that have shaken the community.
The Esa-Oke Central Union claimed on Monday that assailants, who appeared to be disguised as police officers, attacked the town, leaving four dead and many others injured.
The union linked the violence to the controversial appointment of a non-indigene as the monarch of a community within Esa Oke.
However, the Osun State Police Command denied the allegations, stating that no officers fired upon residents. Instead, they reported that seven officers were injured during an ambush while attempting to restore order.
During a peace meeting in Esa Oke on Tuesday, Governor Adeleke stated that his visit was to uncover the root causes of the crisis. He made it clear that rather than impose a curfew, he was prioritizing dialogue to restore peace in the area.
The governor reassured residents of his commitment to justice, emphasizing that those responsible for the violence would be held accountable. “This situation is unfortunate.
The king’s palace, shops, and properties have been affected. Disagreements are natural, but resorting to violence, destruction, and loss of life is unacceptable,” Adeleke said.
He also cautioned against external forces exploiting the crisis for political purposes, particularly condemning the acts of arson against the palace. “I believe no true indigene of Esa Oke would burn the palace. Anyone who does such a thing is not a true son or daughter of this town,” he added.
Governor Adeleke assured the people of Esa Oke that a thorough investigation would take place and that justice would prevail. “If you have grievances, submit a petition, and I will act on it.
There is no need for violence because I am committed to ensuring justice,” he said.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to restoring peace to the community.
