Man arrested for arranging nephew’s kidnap, gets N200k from N13m ransom

Kaduna State police have arrested a 50-year-old man, Ado Haruna, for allegedly masterminding the kidnapping of his nephew, Bashiru Anas, and his family.

Haruna, a resident of Unguwar Kanawa, Dutse Abba, reportedly received N200,000 from the N13 million ransom paid to secure the victims’ release.

Parading the suspect, Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed that the kidnappers also demanded four motorcycles and Airtel recharge cards worth N300,000 as part of the ransom.

Investigations revealed that Haruna led three armed men—Shago Yaro, Tanimu Ayuba, and Lamido Dantajiri—to his nephew’s house around 1 a.m. However, upon realizing their target was not home, they abducted his two wives, three children, younger brother, and his brother’s wife.

The victims were held captive for 60 days in a forest between Buruku and Sabo Birni before their release.
Haruna, who described himself as both a farmer and a vigilante, admitted to his involvement.

“It’s true, I showed the bandits where Alhaji Anas lives. He is my nephew, but they asked me to lead them there,” he confessed.

Authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing to ensure justice is served.
