Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized the defection of Hon. Salisu Garba Koko, the representative of Koko-Besse/Maiyama Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier this week.
In a statement signed by the party’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Sani Dododo, and made available to journalists, the PDP described Koko’s defection as a betrayal and an affront to the people who entrusted him with their mandate.
The party dismissed his stated reasons for defecting as unconvincing and insincere, emphasizing that there is no internal crisis within the PDP in Kebbi State that could justify such a move.
The statement further accused the lawmaker of acting irresponsibly and selfishly, showing disregard for the interests of his constituents.
The PDP vowed to take legal action to challenge the defection, arguing that the mandate given to Koko by the people remains with the party.
It reassured members, supporters, and sympathizers to remain calm and committed to the party’s ideals while legal steps are taken.
“Our legal team is already compiling relevant documents to file a case against Hon. Salisu Garba Koko, in line with constitutional provisions,” the statement said.
The party also called on the people of Koko-Besse and Maiyama Federal Constituency to stay resolute in their pursuit of true democracy, criticizing the APC-led government for policies it claims have worsened the nation’s challenges.
