An Ogun State Magistrate Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, presided over by Magistrate O.L. Oke, has granted bail to popular singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable.
The bail was set at N2 million, with a requirement for one surety in the same amount.
Portable is currently facing a five-count charge, including conspiracy, assault, unlawful possession of dangerous weapons such as cutlasses and guns, and disorderly conduct.
However, he pleaded not guilty to all the charges brought against him.
TheTopNewspaper reports that Portable allegedly assaulted three officials of the Ogun Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA) for which was declared wanted by the Police on Tuesday.
He reportedly went into hiding following the arrest and arraignment of his protégés by the Ogun State Police Command.
Nine individuals linked to the case—Oluwaseun Ayenuwa (19), Precious Ohiegebo (19), Oluwapelumi Adeosun (20), Gospel Kanu (20), Nurudeen Warris (21), Adetola Alashe (25), Fatimo Muhammed (26), Ifeoluwa Babatunde (27), and Samuel Adeleke (28)—were earlier charged with armed violence, obstruction, assault, intent to kill, and conduct likely to cause public disturbance.
During his court appearance, the 31-year-old Zazoo crooner was seen visibly shaken, even shedding tears.
The court proceedings were briefly put on hold for 30 minutes as the Ogun State Government took over the case from the Commissioner of Police.
Portable’s legal representative, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, pleaded for bail, emphasizing that he remains innocent until proven guilty.
She assured the court that her client would comply with all legal proceedings and would not attempt to evade trial.
Magistrate Oke granted the request but issued a stern warning.
He cautioned Portable against making any statements regarding the case on social media or engaging in any form of misconduct.
“If you leave this courtroom and post anything about the court on social media, you will lose your bail,” the magistrate warned.
“If you go out and cause trouble, you will lose your bail. If you fail to appear for any court session or arrive late, you will also forfeit your bail.”
The court also questioned the singer’s mental state, to which he affirmed that he was in good health.
The case has been adjourned until March 5 for further proceedings.
