12-year-old girl killed, sister injured by speeding driver on Lagos-Abeokuta expressway

A tragic accident on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway has left a 12-year-old girl dead and her 15-year-old sister injured after a speeding driver hit them while using the BRT lane.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, revealing that it occurred on Monday at Ogundare bus stop.

“At about 3:35 pm on February 24, 2025, an unidentified driver, while speeding on the BRT lane at Ogundare bus stop, struck two female pedestrians—sisters aged 12 and 15—who were returning from school,” police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin stated.

Both victims sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Orile-Agege General Hospital for treatment. Sadly, the younger girl did not survive, while her sister was later transferred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital for further care.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident and urged motorists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent similar occurrences.

“The Commissioner of Police sympathizes with the grieving family and assures that the investigation will be swift and thorough to ensure justice is served,” the statement added.
