Police nab dismissed Immigration officer for alleged arms supply to bandits

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has apprehended a former immigration officer accused of illegally supplying firearms to bandits operating along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.

The suspect, who was dismissed from the Nigerian Immigration Service, was arrested during a police intelligence operation aimed at curbing the flow of illegal arms.

Mustapha Mohammed, who heads the police anti-kidnapping unit, stated that officers intercepted the weapons before they could reach the criminal group.

He emphasized that timely intelligence gathering played a crucial role in preventing the arms from being used for criminal activities.

Among the seized weapons was a Scorpion CZ EVO3, a high-powered, fully automatic firearm featuring an inbuilt silencer.

Mohammed confirmed that the firearm was the latest 2022 model of the Scorpion series, with a magazine capacity of up to 30 rounds, depending on its configuration.

The police also recovered 52 rounds of ammunition and other items linked to the illegal arms trade.

Investigations are ongoing to uncover more details regarding the suspect’s involvement in the illicit weapons market.
