Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has reiterated his administration’s stance against noise pollution, cautioning roadside preachers who use loudspeakers in public places, particularly markets. He warned that violators of the directive would be fined ₦500,000.
A viral video circulating on social media shows the governor confronting a preacher at a market, instructing him to stop disturbing traders with his sermons.
Addressing the preacher and traders, Soludo insisted that religious activities should be conducted in designated places such as churches or rented open spaces, where only willing listeners would participate.
“If you want to preach, go to your church. You are causing noise pollution here and disturbing people. This is a marketplace, not a church,” Soludo stated, adding that individuals cannot take over public spaces for religious purposes without consequences.
He emphasized that the ban on loudspeakers in markets was aimed at protecting residents from excessive noise, which could harm their health. The governor also noted that his administration was cracking down on fraudulent religious leaders in the state.
