APC chairmanship aspirant assassinated in Lagos

Unidentified gunmen have killed Oluwatosin Onamade, a chairmanship aspirant for Ijede Local Council Development Area under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.

The attack occurred on Saturday night in Ijede, Ikorodu.

His brother, Oluwafemi Onamade, revealed that the assailants had been monitoring him for a while before executing the attack.

Oluwafemi explained that the attackers, who were dressed in black and concealed their faces, initially shot at Onamade.

However, when the bullets did not seem to have an immediate effect, they used a machete on his head and face.

“The incident happened around 9 p.m. on Saturday. Two armed men carried out the attack, and no one could identify them. His aide ran away upon hearing the gunshots. They struck right in front of his residence on Oluwatosin Onamade Street in Ijede,” he recounted.

He alleged that his brother was killed by political opponents who viewed him as a major threat in the race for the chairmanship position.

He also mentioned that Onamade had previously survived a similar attack in 2021, and some of those involved in that incident were still in detention awaiting judgment.

Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the murder and stated that an investigation is already underway.

“We have commenced an investigation into the incident,” he said.
