Ukraine has accepted a 30-day ceasefire proposal brokered by the United States, contingent on Russia’s approval, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
Speaking in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated, “Ukraine is prepared to engage in talks and halt hostilities.”
As part of the agreement, the U.S. has lifted its temporary suspension on intelligence sharing with Ukraine and will resume security assistance to the country.
The breakthrough followed more than seven hours of negotiations in Jeddah between top American and Ukrainian officials.
“Today, we presented a proposal that Ukraine has agreed to—an immediate ceasefire and negotiations aimed at securing a lasting and sustainable resolution that safeguards their interests, security, and national prosperity,” Rubio explained.
He urged Russia to accept the terms, emphasizing that the opportunity for peace now rests with Moscow. “We’ve put forth an offer, and we hope they will say yes,” Rubio added.
