Hamas has agreed to free Edan Alexander, the final known American hostage still alive in captivity in Gaza.
Alexander, a 21-year-old Israeli-American, was serving in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as a member of the Golani Brigade when Hamas launched its attacks on Israel.
According to Fox News, Alexander is set to be released as part of a mediated agreement, which also includes the return of the remains of four other hostages.
Born in Israel, Alexander moved to the United States with his parents as an infant and spent most of his life in New Jersey.
Rather than attending college after high school, he chose to enlist in the IDF.
On November 30 last year, Hamas released a video showing Alexander speaking in Hebrew and Arabic, marking over a year since his capture.
