APC professionals describe El-Rufai’s defection as betrayal

The APC Professional Network, a coalition of professionals within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has described the defection of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as a major betrayal.

In a statement released on Monday and signed by its President General, Victor Walsh Oluwafemi, the group expressed disappointment over El-Rufai’s decision to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP), as widely reported. However, it maintained that the situation was not beyond resolution.

“El-Rufai has played a significant role in the APC’s growth and governance agenda. His departure, along with the comments he made during his recent interview, is both unexpected and disappointing. It raises concerns about party loyalty, consistency, and the dedication required to strengthen the APC,” the statement read.

While acknowledging his right to political association, the group emphasized that such defections could affect the unity and integrity of the party. It reaffirmed its commitment to the APC’s core principles of good governance, accountability, and national development.

“As professionals within the APC, we urge our members and supporters to remain calm, focused, and resolute. This development should not deter us from our collective goal of advancing the party’s agenda for a prosperous and united Nigeria,” Oluwafemi added.

The group also called on party leaders to address internal issues that could lead to further defections, stressing the need for unity and strong leadership. It assured APC members of its dedication to ensuring the party remains solid and cohesive.
