Kyiv drone attack kills civilians as Ukraine peace talks continue

As negotiations for a ceasefire unfolded in Saudi Arabia, violence continued in Ukraine. A Russian drone strike on Kyiv late Saturday claimed three lives, including a five-year-old girl and her father, according to Ukrainian officials.

The attack, which hit residential buildings, left multiple civilians wounded.

AFP journalists in the capital witnessed emergency workers assisting the injured in the aftermath of the strike.

While Kyiv has been relatively shielded from direct assaults compared to other regions, the incident underscored the ongoing dangers faced by civilians.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Western allies to intensify pressure on Russia.

“New measures and stronger actions against Moscow are necessary to stop these attacks and bring this war to an end,” he posted on social media.

Meanwhile, Russia entered the Saudi talks buoyed by improved relations with Washington under Trump.

Peskov emphasized the potential for cooperation between the two nations, stating, “While disagreements exist, mutually beneficial partnerships should not be overlooked.”

Both sides remain far from reaching a comprehensive agreement, with Ukraine proposing a broader ceasefire encompassing energy infrastructure, critical facilities, and naval operations.

However, fresh drone attacks on the eve of negotiations highlight the ongoing challenges in achieving a lasting peace.
