Tinubu announces key appointments for universities in Ekiti, Benue

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of a governing council, principal officers, and a new Pro-Chancellor for the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti, in Ekiti State.

Additionally, he has named a new Pro-Chancellor for the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, in Benue State.

Senator Binta Masi Garba has been selected as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairperson of the Governing Council for the Iyin Ekiti institution.

A seasoned politician and business executive, she previously represented Adamawa North in the Senate and served multiple terms in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2011.

The governing council for the new university also includes Prof. Joseph Olurotimi Sanya, Mr. Efe Emefienin Emmanuel, Dr. Joyce Ogunyemi, and Alhaji Dahiru Abdullahi Ruma.

The appointed principal officers are:

Vice-Chancellor: Prof. James Olugbenga Aribisala

Registrar: Mr. Oluwole Olalere Dada

Bursar: Mrs. Adeniyi Rachael Ajayi

Librarian: Prof. Isaac Oluwadare Busayo

President Tinubu acknowledged the efforts of Senate Leader Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele in advocating for the university’s establishment.

He urged the new appointees to apply their leadership skills to drive research, innovation, and academic excellence.

“This selection of competent individuals will ensure the university achieves its goal of delivering quality education and research for national progress,” Tinubu said.

The Iyin Ekiti-based university is expected to welcome its first batch of students in September 2025.

In a related development, Tinubu has appointed Prof. Muhammed Salihu Audu as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Board for the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo.

Prof. Audu, a respected academic and former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, takes over from Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami.
