A political pressure group, the Action Collective (AC), has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of protecting Senate President Godswill Akpabio from facing an impartial investigation into sexual harassment allegations made against him by Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
In a statement on Wednesday, Onimisi Ibrahim, the group’s coordinator, expressed concern over the handling of the matter, particularly the withdrawal of Justice Obiora Egwuatu from the case.
The judge reportedly stepped aside due to external influences, a move the AC described as deeply concerning and a direct attack on judicial independence.
The group insisted that Akpabio, along with Neda Imasuen, chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, should step aside to allow for a fair and unbiased investigation.
“A legislature that fails to uphold ethical standards and protect victims of misconduct loses the moral authority to oversee the executive and judiciary,” the statement emphasized.
The AC further alleged that the case is being deliberately manipulated to silence Akpoti-Uduaghan, calling on civil society groups and pro-democracy organizations to stand firm in demanding justice and ensuring that the Senate leadership is held accountable.
