England faces risk of losing Arsenal’s rising star to Nigeria

A talented young Arsenal player, eligible to represent England, may soon switch allegiance to Nigeria due to a little-known FIFA rule.

The issue of dual-nationality has long plagued international football, with legendary players like Ferenc Puskas and Diego Costa having represented multiple countries. In response, FIFA updated its guidelines in 2020.

According to FIFA, players with three or fewer senior appearances can change their national allegiance, provided those games were not played at a major tournament and the player was under 21.

Arsenal has a history of producing young English stars, including Ashley Cole, Theo Walcott, Bukayo Saka, and Jack Wilshere. However, England’s latest young talent may be poised to join Nigeria’s national team instead.”
