FG vows justice for immigration officer shot on Chinese expatriate order

The Federal Government has reacted with outrage after a Chinese expatriate allegedly ordered the shooting of a Nigerian Immigration officer who was carrying out his lawful duty.

The incident occurred when the officer visited the premises of a company to request immigration documents.

Instead of complying, the Chinese national reportedly instructed that the officer be shot.

Addressing the matter at the Stakeholders’ Sensitisation Workshop on the Implementation of the Nigeria Visa Policy 2025 in Abuja, Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, described the act as unacceptable and assured that it had been escalated to the diplomatic level.

“This will not go unpunished. No foreigner has the right to endanger the life of a Nigerian officer performing lawful duties,” he declared, emphasizing that the government would take decisive action.

He further warned that any foreigner who poses a threat to national security would be blacklisted, adding that expatriates overstaying their visas would also face penalties.

Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation is underway to ensure that the perpetrator is held accountable.

The incident has sparked public concern over the treatment of Nigerian officials by foreign nationals and the need for stricter enforcement of immigration laws.
