The Kebbi State Government has begun preparations to sponsor the mass wedding of 300 couples, scheduled for February 27.
Chairman of the organizing committee, Suleiman Argungu, revealed this to journalists on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi.
He stated that the initiative is being carried out in partnership with the Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS), a non-governmental organization.
To ensure compliance with marital requirements in the state, various committees have been set up to conduct pregnancy tests, genotype tests, HIV/AIDS screenings, and other necessary medical checks.
Argungu explained that the mass wedding aligns with Governor Nasir Idris’ commitment to supporting underprivileged individuals who wish to get married. He recalled that during the last mass wedding, the governor pledged to make such initiatives a regular occurrence.
“As part of the support package, the government will provide each bride with a dowry of N180,000 across all 21 Local Government Areas of the state,” he said.
In addition to the dowry, the government will also provide essential items such as room furniture and food supplies to help the couples establish a stable home.
Argungu further emphasized that the event will be conducted in accordance with Islamic traditions, following extensive consultations with religious scholars to ensure adherence to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
